Extra Credit: Video Post. Mythical Caves and Gardens.

Mike Rugnetta talked about the many different settings that mythical stories have. I found this video interesting because I found that he was saying to be true now that I have explored tons of many different stories in the Mythical Folklore world. He talks about how many mythical stories share the same settings. There are a few important places that myths happened like caves waters gardens, forests and temples. For an example there was a story that I re-write that was based off of a story that was mostly involved in water. It was called the Great Flood and the story was about Manabush and his brother. Mike Rugnetta also talked about the origin of the meaning of caves and gardens and refers back to the beginning of humanity when Adam and Eve was created. They happened to be in the Garden of Eden. Which was looked at a physical and metaphorical place. It is described to be a lush and growing place. Because of human disobedience they were casted out of the perfect paradise but the garde

Reading Notes B: The Brave Tin Soldier.

Image
This story,  The Brave Tin Solider  is a part of the  Andersen Fairy Tales unit . It is by H.P. Paul (1872). I was not a big fan of this story. However, I can switch up the story and have the little boys actually be little Spongebobs in my story. Just like the little boy received the Tin Soldiers for his birthday. Spongebob could receive a toy Jellyfish for his birthday. The Jellyfish could all look a like except for one. The difference between this jellyfish and the others can be this jelly fish only have one stinger. The tin soldier saw what he thought could be his wife and he thought he could not have her because he only lived in a box. In my story I am going to have the Jellyfish see Mr.Krabs daughter Pearl and fall in love with her. The Jelly fish and pearl will become happily ever after. Tin Soldier

Reading Notes Part A: The Princess and the Pea.

Image
This story, Princess and the Pea  comes from the  Andersen Fairy Tales unit . It is translated by H.P. Paul (1872). This story is about a prince tat is on the search for a real princess. I  could easily incorporate this into my SpongeBob theme. Since Gary, SpongeBob's pet died. he could be on the search for a new "Gary the snail". The princess came in and she talked about how uncomfortable she was while sleeping on the bed. She said, " ... I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!" This is how the prince knew she was a REAL princess because nobody could be as sensitive as she was to the pea in the mattress unless they were a princess. I could have SpongeBob take a specific trait from Gary and try to find that trip on a different snail. I think I might have him look for a snail with a certain amount of swirls on his shell. That will determine if the snail is REAL of not. Princess and the Pea

Story Telling: A Visitor from Bikini Top

Image
There are only a few things I absolutely hate in life and that is a liar and a stealer. I met a person who is both! I take pride in the sea-farm and house that my wife and I has created. One morning my wife was out watering the flowers in the back and a stranger approached the front door. I thought to myself, who in the Bikini Bottom is this, at my door looking homeless? I decided to open the door and he asked me if he could have a drink of water. I gave him something to drink because I felt bad  for him. We began to talk and he seemed like a nice guy. He just looked rough. His hair looked like it was thinning out, he had a huge stain on the front of his shirt and dirt on his pants. I was not sure what he might have gotten done doing.  I asked him, where was he from Bikini Top to visit Bikini Bottom. My ex wife, however, is from there. So, I asked him if he knew her. Her name is Sandy. Surprisingly enough he actually did know her.  He continued to say that they are like

Reading Part B: A Visitor from Paradise

Image
This story is from the  Europa's Fairy Book  told by Joseph Jacobs.  A Visitor from Paradise This story is about a tramp coming to the door of a woman who was married twice. She asked him where he was from and he said "Paris" but she thought he said "Paradise". She then continued to ask him how was paradise and if he saw her husband. He actually did know her husband John Goody. Wha I found funny is she went into the house and grabbed a bunch of stuff for him to bring to her ex-husband. I think if i were to re-write this story I would make it more like a bad break-up. Haven't we all had that break-up where we wanted to get rid of all of the persons stuff. I would make Spongebob in the place of the woman and have one of Sandy's friends come by saying they are from where Sandy moved to. The tramp ended up taking the ladies Dobbin and running off with the clothes and the Dobbin. What is even crazier they took the door off the hinges to go look for th

Growth Mindset: Ways to Develop a Growth Mindset

Image
For this assignment I read,  25 ways to develop a growth mindset . I like the definition of a growth mindset that Carol Dwek gives. She said, " a growth mindset is a tendency to believe that you can grow". In this article they list 25 ways to develop a growth mindset and I really have an appreciation for the first one. "Acknowledge and embrace imperfections" This is a great statement because many people think that their imperfections are not good enough. When in it is because it is apart of your journey and it makes you, YOU! If someone does not acknowledge and embrace your imperfections, you wont be able to overcome them. "Stop seeking approval" Many of us do not progress in life because we are waiting for some type of approval to accomplish our dreams. We should put learning over approval.   Chase your dreams

Wikipedia Trail: Pandita Ramabai

Image
I found Pandita Ramabai on Dr.Gibbs twitter. There  is an article  about her traveling around India in the 19th century to give lectures on women's emancipation and established one of the country's first women's shelters and schools.  I was intrigued because she is an activist. I look up to any woman who has enough courage to stand up for anything. She defied many of the odds in her time. She learned the Sanskrit which was reserved for men only. She also was an Indian woman who decided to convert ti Christianity. People referred to her as a Pandit. I wasn't sure what that meant so I searched it. A pandit is a woman who is the wife of a Brahmin scholar or a teacher of and field of knowledge in Hinduism.  This article continued to talk about a sanskrit. I have heard of a sanskrit before but I did not know the true meaning of it. I searched sanskrit and it is a language of ancient India. It is the predominant language of principle texts of Buddhism and Jainism. Pand
