Taylor’s Introduction !
Hello bloggers!
My name is Taylor Calvert and I am a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences. My majors are General Science, Pre-Pharmacy and a Spanish minor. The coolest thing about my major is I am learning about the human body everyday. I personally think everyone needs to know more about the human body to properly take care of themselves. The cool thing about having a Spanish minor is being able to communicate with a larger audience. The best class I took when considering science is Human Anatomy because I learned so much about the human body hands on. I was grateful to have the opportunity to work on a cadaver, to see what the inside of our bodies really look like.
I absolutely love to cook and to garden in my spare time! Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved flowers. My grandmother and I would always spend time gardening together.

I absolutely love to cook and to garden in my spare time! Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved flowers. My grandmother and I would always spend time gardening together.
My favorite flowers are Hibiscus flowers and Roses. Both of these flowers have a wonderful fragrance. Outside of gardening you will catch me in the kitchen cooking up some cajun food.
I am from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and we are to the cajun food. Cajun food run through my veins! My favorite dishes to cook are Crawfish Etoufee and Shrimp Creole. Both of these dishes take about 30 min to cook which makes it even better to make.
If I had an extra day to do whatever I wanted I would gather my family and friends and we would all go trail riding on horses and listen to country music and dance until the sun goes down and comes up. I love being around family and friends and creating memories. I also love horses so that would put the cherry right on top of the sundae.

Hi Taylor! It’s so cool that you garden! My mom has always been a gardener but I didn’t get her green thumb. I’m trying to get better at it, and I hope to start a vegetable garden with her sometime. Cajun food is amazing! If we ever had to travel through Louisiana for family trips we would always stop in New Orleans to get Cajun.
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor! Your major is so cool! You will definitely be able to help many people throughout your career. I am the complete opposite when it comes to flowers and gardening. I can't keep a plant alive even if my life depended on it. I either over water it or don't water it enough. I've been to Louisiana a few times but have never tried any of the dishes that you mentioned in your post, I bet they are delicious. It was nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor, I'm Makenzi and I am a senior Public Relations major! I was a Nursing major until the end of my sophomore year, so I took many science classes and got to learn a lot about the human body. I love having somewhat of a scientific knowledge on my body and how some of it works. It is cool that you are so into gardening! My neighbors growing up had a garden and would always bring us fresh fruits, vegetables and basil, so I appreciate those who know how to do it well. I hope your semester goes well!
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor! I am super jealous that you’re a good cook and a good gardener because I am not good at either thing. However, my mom is great at both and I wish that somehow her perfect cooking and gardening skills would be passed on to me. I think every plant that I’ve had has died. I’m right there with you in loving to spend time with my friends and family as well especially since my parents live in a different state than I do! Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor! I’ve always loved horses too! My extended family lives on land and has horses and I’ve always wished I could have one of my own. Your ideal day sounds pretty fun to me. There’s nothing better than being outside and spending time with friends and family :) I think I would like to do the same but do it at my aunts house so we can ride to her blackberry bush and pick blackberries!
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to meet up again, Taylor! And congratulations on being so close to graduating. It is so cool that you are from Louisiana, where there is that great Cajun cooking tradition... plus Cajun and Creole stories too! So maybe you will want to do a Storybook of Louisiana stories... or maybe a Storybook with myths and legends about flowers: a flower project would be so much fun, and beautiful too because there are so many lovely pictures of roses and all the other flowers online. They might not smell like real roses, but the pictures are still very beautiful! You can see what grabs your attention as you start brainstorming topics for the semester. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor,
ReplyDeleteIt was nice reading your introduction, Congrats on being close to graduating! It is always nice meeting someone from Louisiana especially someone from Baton Rouge because usually the people i run into that are from Louisiana are usually from New Orleans or Lafayette. I love how you love to cook because i do too but i would hope you do a cookbook story so that i can learn how to cook cajun food like you. I have never tasted shrimp creole or been to Louisiana but after reading your introduction that will change very soon!
Hi Taylor, I am also a CAS student but I am majoring in microbiology. Cajun food is awesome! I really love spicy food of any kind, I probably eat something spicy at the very minimum once a week. Your grandmothers garden is pretty! My grandma had one in the backyard, and the one time she tried planting roses in the front yard my uncle mowed over them - she was pretty mad about that. Have a nice semester!
ReplyDeleteCajun food is absolutely amazing, and both of these dishes you mention are excellent and fun to make so I definitely vibe with you on that. I grew up in Texas but my family and a lot of our close family friends cooked a ton of cajun and creole meals, so I've been obsessed with that kind of stuff for as long as I can remember. It's awesome that you're majoring in a science and minoring in a language! That must take an incredible work ethic, I do not envy your workload whatsoever. It was nice to read your introduction and I hope your midterms are/were easy!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor!
ReplyDeleteI am as well a CAS student, but my major is in the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine. I started out as wanting to be a pharmacist, but have decided not to. Tried organic chemistry a couple times and I do not wish to try it for a 3rd time. As I am a currently a pharmacy technician at a very busy store, I would recommend to you that you go work in a pharmacy as a tech and hopefully an intern. When you are finished with pharmacy school it will help you out tremendously, I know a few pharmacist now that were techs and they said it helps. I also love to cook and spending time with my family! Hope that you are having a great semester so far!
Oh my gosh hi Taylor! I didn't know that was your major coming into OU. That's actually really cool! I also went for a language minor, though mine was for Japanese language. I hope that the Spanish comes in handy and that you loved being able to learn more about it and become fluent c: Do you have a preference to the type of gardening you do? So would it be more plant and flora based or did you like vegetation and food to plant? I think that's a really cool hobby to have and I envy those with a green thumb!
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor!
ReplyDeleteYou have such an interesting major! I know I would not last one second as a science major! Science has never been something I was very good at. I also think it is really cool that you are also minoring in Spanish. I took the required three semesters here at OU and actually really loved it! Congrats on almost being done with school! I am in the same boat and it fells great!
Hi Taylor! The human body is so fascinating. It is crazy to think about all of the things that it does in order to work every single day! What is your favorite dish to eat? I assume it is probably Cajun food, but just curious! I think that it is really cool that you love to cook and that you are good at it too! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor! I'm so happy that you enjoyed taking Human Anatomy even though the class is a lot of work. I think it's so cool that you're minoring in Spanish, as learning a new language doesn't just let you in on what a whole new body of people are saying, but you also get the chance to be exposed to an entirely new culture and you can indulge in Latin culture in a way that you could not if you didn't have that human connection with other Spanish speakers. Now that we are getting to the point of the class where we get more free reign to choose what story topics we want to explore, it would be so cool to see you rewrite a Spanish story!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor! Your majors sound cool, and it seems like you are really enjoying them. It’s also really cool that you are into gardening! I used to be into botany back in high school, so I definitely understand your interest in plants and flowers. That’s awesome that you’re from Louisiana! My step-dad is as well, so I understand your love of Cajun food since most of the stuff we eat at my house is heavily influenced by that cuisine. Hope your semester is going great!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor! My favorite class so far has been Human Anatomy as well! It was so fun and I learned so much! I loved having the opportunity to gain the experience of dissecting a human cadaver as a sophomore in college—something that many medical people don’t get to do until medical school. If you see this, I would love to know why you came to Oklahoma for school since you’re from Louisiana!
ReplyDeleteHello Taylor!
ReplyDeleteHuman Anatomy sounds interestingly disgusting! I had some friends who dissected the cadavers and when they got out of their lab they smelled like the formaldehyde, which is a smell that gets burned into your nose! I think all that stuff is interesting, but at a distance.
I love that you love to cook and garden. I am an avid cook, but I have never attempted to make true cajun food (sometimes I will make a 'cajun' spice mix for chicken). I should try it out sometime though because I absolutely love cajun food, its addicting. My favorite dishes are gumbo and beignets! (OMG, I could live off of those two!) I attempted to make beignets before, but it was not that much of a success. My uncle used to make them, that is where I got hooked on those suckers!
You should share some of your recipes in a story or something, lol. I would love to try and make them!
Hi Taylor! I think your major and minor combo is really intriguing and impressive! I agree that everyone would benefit from learning more about the human body. Gardening with your grandma sounds like a really fun bonding experience. My grandmother's favorite flower was the sunflower! I have visited Louisiana a few times to see a family friend and I have never been disappointed. I look forward to reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteHello Taylor!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is great that you garden with your grandma. I used to do that with mine but now she is too old to love it. I loved gardening but really wish I developed her green thumb. I thought it was really nice to be able to grow your own veggies and spice. Its much more convenient and good for the Earth and your wallet.
Hi Taylor!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you love what you are studying! Some people are not as enthusiastic about what they are studying as you are. I am sure anatomy was difficult but rewarding in the end. I have never taken up gardening but I think it is cool that you and your grandma do that together! Good luck on the rest of the semester!
Hey Taylor! Really cool introduction! I think it's great you like to garden and cook. Those are two things I can't say I have a talent for. Everything I grow, dies. Everything I attempt to cook tends to end up burnt. I have always wanted to visit Baton Rouge. I've heard it's a really cool place. Have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi, Taylor! I really enjoyed reading your introduction and learning more about you. I have never been one to enjoy being outside, so I can definitely appreciate your love for gardening! I have also never been the best cook, so props to you! I seem to burn everything I try and cook myself, so I just stick to microwaving food. Good luck on the rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor! I loved reading about the dishes you like to make. Both of them sound delicious, and I'm getting hungry just thinking about them. I also love to garden. Do you have many plants here? I have a dresser top covered in them, but many of them don't love the cold winters in Oklahoma. Good luck with finals coming up!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor! I am glad that you learned so much from your Human Anatomy class... I know several people who have to take it for their major, and pretty much everything I've heard before now has been a complaint. My dad was born in Louisiana and almost all of his family lives there, so we go down to visit once or twice a year. My grandmother just move there, so we are going over the break to see her. I'm certainly looking forward to the cajun food we'll eat there...my favorite is fried crawfish!
