Reading Notes: Myth-Folklore Anthology
I chose to take notes Origin Stories:The Moon. In the overview, It mentions how different cultures have different approaches to how things are made. It is always interesting to me to see the creativity in some of the stories.
The Man in the Moon story was interesting to read because the man started out as a blacksmith. He complained and was granted to turn into a rock. His complaints were endless and he turned into multiple things until the wiseman told him he has to stay being the moon. If I were to re-write this story I would use the same story line but just change the things he turn into. I have always had this weird obsession with sloths. I think it would be cool to talk about how the sloths were made in a mythological way.
I am probably going to start the character off as a teacher and have him complain about how bad the students are. Next, I am going to have him turn into a landscaper because he wants peace and then he turns into fish because landscaping made him thirsty and he wants water. If he was a fish he could have enough water to quench his thirst. However, he ran into a problem! He always had to swim away from sharks. Finally he requested to be a sloth so he could relax. The wiseman granted his request and he became a sloth.
