New Orleans.... My favorite place
I have grown up in Louisiana and Oklahoma for the majority of my life. Louisiana, to this day is my favorite place. I have not found another place like it. Most of my family reside there and the culture is so rich. Not to mention, in my opinion we have the best food in the country! One of my favorite places in Louisiana is New Orleans. Every time I go, I make an effort to get beignets and coffee at Cafe Du Monde ! I could go on and on about the amazing features of New Orleans like Mardi Gras, Essence Festival, Jazz Festival, French Quarters.
One of my favorite times in New Orleans was Mardi Gras 2012. I went to the Zulu Ball with my family and had a Ball! Lol! We danced, ate food all night long, watched many performances and saw the Zulu King and Queen be crowned. If you have not experienced the Zulu Ball before, I will attach a video for you to get a taste of the "Pre-Party" as we would say, which is the Zulu Parade.
Needless to say... I did not get to have beignets for breakfast this morning, ha ha. But at least I got to see pictures of beignets. :-)
ReplyDeleteAbout Louisiana: The book I was thinking of is
Louisiana Folktales by Alcée Fortier.
The English translations are in volume 1, with the Creole texts in volume 2... so you can compare the Creole to the English, which is pretty amazing! Some of them are Brer Rabbit stories (he's Compair Lapin in Creole!), and there are fairy tales too, like The Singing Bones and The Devil's Marriage. You can take a look when you start brainstorming a project and see what you think! :-)
New Orleans is such a fun city! I had the pleasure of being there on New Year’s Eve/Day a couple years ago when OU went to the Sugar Bowl. It was one of the greatest experiences! The food, the atmosphere, just everything was so great! I can see why it is your favorite place. The Zulu Ball sounds really neat! Thank you for sharing!
